Our Story: From Humble Beginnings Over 50 Years Ago
TMS Inc, an employee owned company, is led by a team with the same spirit, energy and passion established by the former owners, the Cashen family. A second generation of Cashens, infused with the work ethic and integrity of their father John, the company founder, now have more than 120 years of combined experience in the business.
1969
John “Johnny” Cashen started his own pipefitting business “There Goes Cashen Heating and Cooling” which was named in honor of his father’s tire business from the 1930’s, “There Goes Cashen to the Blowout”.
1970s
Johnny started with residential heating and cooling and branched out to industrial service in the 1970’s by servicing large laundries. Johnny and his wife Mary changed the name of the business to “Trinity Mechanical Service”.
1980s
In the early 1980’s, larger industrial clients were looking for the quality service Trinity Mechanical Service provided. Johnny’s sons were involved by then and they decided to incorporate in 1988. At that time, hoping to grow the business beyond a family affair, they changed the name to TMS, Inc.
1990-2000s
The brothers, under the leadership of Joe Cashen, had the goal to grow the business so that they could eventually pass it onto their employees. Growth was achieved by adding to their core employees and utilizing temporary labor to increase the quantity of work they could manage and deploying trainings to help employees enhance their professional abilities to grow the company from within.
2019 - Current
TMS transitions to an ESOP as the Cashen brothers sell TMS, Inc. to the employees. Their goal with the sale was and still is to continue the legacy of keeping the business in the hands of those who have contributed to the success of TMS: the employees.

A Safety Culture with Zero Recordable Incidents
Safety is at the foundation of everything we do. For us, safety and a quality project go hand-in hand. Safety is incorporated into our daily operations through pre-job hazard assessments, daily jobsite ‘good catch’ cards, weekly safety talks and more.
